Angelina: “I’m Not Excited”

May 1, 2005

Angelina Jolie says she just can't seem to get excited lately. Now, before you blame those pesky Brad Pitt rumors or look for signs of an impending apocalypse, keep in mind the Oscar winner and United Nations goodwill ambassador is feeling a lack of stimulation only in her professional life.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where Jolie rubbed shoulders with what we're guessing were wide-eyed world leaders and captains of industry, she confessed that her dedication to do good has tempered her desire to get back in front of the camera.

"I can't find anything that interests me enough to go back to work," she told reporters on Saturday (via Reuters). "I'm simply not excited about anything. I'm not excited about going to a film set."

Jolie's lack of motivation is understandable given the critical evisceration she received as Colin Farrell's poufy-haired mom in "Alexander," but it could be bad news for Matt Damon. Variety reports the unenthused actress has just inked a deal to appear opposite the "Bourne Supremacy" star in the Robert De Niro-directed CIA drama "The Good Shepherd," which is scheduled to begin production in March.

So why did Angelina agree to a high-profile project if her passion lies elsewhere? According to the actress, it's all a matter of economics: "... I know that by doing a film and making money and remaining in the public eye, I'm able to fund more programs and I'm able to bring more attention. So I know I have to do both. But it is hard to go back to work."

In addition to cozying up to international movers and shakers and making headlines for allegedly being a factor in the bust-up of Hollywood's golden couple, Jolie has been hard at work on the self-funded documentary "A Moment in the World."

Variety says she dispatched 38 teams of cameramen and narrators to different parts of the world to record events that transpired in the same 4-minute window of time. The final product is intended to educate children about different cultures.
