Rose McGowan: at 22 she's hot as a pistol and smart as a whip. She's been compared to everyone from Bette Davis to Dorothy Parker. Her debut performance as 'Amy Blue,' the speed-addicted vixen in Gregg Araki's surreal DOOM GENERATION, earned her a reputation as the wild child of alternative American cinema. But it is as 'Tatum,' a sex bomb in Wes Craven's SCREAM, that she effortlessly upstages an entire cast of vamps. Rose reinforced her talent as an actor at this year's Sundance Film festival as the star of four independent movies. Question: How do you feel being compared to other performers? Would you rather people just accept you as a unique individual?

RoseMcGwn: I think everybody, no matter what they did, be it an accountant or an actor, would rather be perceived as a unique individual and have their own strength recognized and not be compared to other. I suppose it's normal to categorize and it gives people a frame of reference. But dammit, I stand alone (LOL)

Question: Was there ever a moment on the set of Scream when you were actually scared?

RoseMcGwn: Absolutely. I was scared when I did most of the garage door stunt by myself. I was more scared the next morning when, because of all the action in there, I had bruises all over my body and ribcage, but it was worth it.

Question: Hello Rose, my name is Amy. I am a HUGE fan of Scream and I am just wondering what the set was like and was it fun to make that movie? Thank you!! (tatum rules)

RoseMcGwn: LOL. I think tatum rules too. The set was really fun. It was kind of a two month long party. It kind of was like the movie, except for none of us got killed.

Question: how do you feel about going from a role like Amy to a role like Tatum?

RoseMcGwn: LOL. Good question. I suppose that would be like going from any role to another but I like to, no matter what the character, or who the character is, it makes them seem like a 3 dimensional person because so many scripts are written 2 dimensional. With Tatum, I wanted her to be a full-fledged person, in as much as the movie was about character exploration. The same thing with Amy, I wanted to show that underneath all the hard talk and ---- you's that there was a really wounded soul. And, it is always an experience being somebody else. Free Vacation.

Question: Do you plan on perhaps appearing in Hollywood films now that you have the most infamous death sequence in film history?

RoseMcGwn: Well, I plan on appearing in films that I respond to. Viscerally. I don't really care if they are Hollywood films or Independent as long as they "float my boat" so to speak.

Question: What is your favorite work that you've done?

RoseMcGwn: That is so hard. Amy Blue in Doom Generation is a very close character to me. There is a movie that I did this summer called Devil In The Flesh that is pretty great too. But then, I am biased, of course, because I think they all are.

RoseMcGwn: Well, you should be talking to Woody Allen on line. LOL. Thank you very much. It is always nice to be appreciated for other things and not just a physical self.

Question: if given the opportunity to do the whole Scream thing again ... would you do it? why?

RoseMcGwn: Absolutely. I would do it again just because it was a really fun experience to do it with a bunch of people that you really dig and have it turn out well. I am really happy about the success of it for everybody involved. They are really kick-ass human beings.

RoseMcGwn: It is always like the first day of school and I always feel like I am wearing the wrong outfit. So, yes, I do get nervous but just like anything new, it goes away.

RoseMcGwn: Thank you. I am partial to black hair. I adore Neve. She is a very sweet soul. Yes, I agree Tatum and Sidney rock.

AOLiveMC3: Rose, tell us some about Going All The Way.

RoseMcGwn: Going All The Way is a really great period film, set in the 1950s and it was my first period film and I really hope to do more. I feel much more comfortable in other decades. The movie is just really visually stunning. Jeremy Davies and Ben Affleck are really great. I was really happy to play a woman instead of a girl. I get to wear a fabulous red dress. The movie is a coming of age story, kind of. Two guys return home from WWII and find that their needs and desires have changed. Jeremy Davies plays a character that is really obsessed with pinup girls, everything that his very religious mother bans from the house. Affleck set him up with me and I play his fantasy pinup girl come to life. I take my high heel and grind his little heart out.

AOLiveMC3: Jim007bon has a question for you:

Question: How much input did you have on the character you portrayed in Going All the Way?

RoseMcGwn: I have been really fortunate to have been able to have all the input I want on every character I play. That is how I own them and that is why, also, through the auditioning process that I get cast and that is why I also don't get cast in a lot of other things because they are looking for different characterizations and everybody brings a different characterization to it. If you bring the right characterization, the one they are looking for, usually, they will let you go with it.

AOLiveMC3: Id7 wants a comparison:

Question: Compare your feelings and experiences between the movie Scream and The Doom Generation.

RoseMcGwn: Night and day. Doom Generation being night. Scream being very sunny and fun. It is a very different thing playing somebody who just wants to have fun with her friends and kind of loves life and being silly and goofy than it is to play somebody who has serious amounts of emotional baggage but they are both good people to travel through. With Scream I got to experience the typical, all-American high school life that I never had so that was fun also.

AOLiveMC3: Jim007bon has another question for you:

Question: Hi Rose. You were so sexy in Scream. Do you mind being considered a sex symbol?

RoseMcGwn: It beats a lot of other things I suppose. Thank you. I find that sexuality is a big part of human beings and if I am doing a character, even a character that is sexually repressed there is still that characteristic running through their veins as are a lot of other things. I sometimes think people read into the sexual aspect of things. I always thinks there are other things running through as well. I guess it beats being a fat truckdriver though.

AOLiveMC3: Id7 asks:

Question: How does it feel to not be able to be in the sequel to Scream? Are you disappointed at all?

RoseMcGwn: Well, when I died in Scream, I pretty much understood that I was not going to be coming back I really enjoyed being with Neve Campbell and Wes Craven and I am sad not to be able to hang out with them more, but I get to see them socially. I have also done a lot of other roles that are really challenging so I don't feel a void and I was very happy not be a blond again.

Question: Do you feel that there is a true fraternity of actors in Hollywood or do you feel that actors tend to be competitive with one another?

RoseMcGwn: That gives me a moment's pause. I think it is all a completely individual thing. I tend to feel there is enough for everybody and I feel like if I just keep working and going forward then I am going to be doing what I want to. I have encountered some people who were very nasty and if I was working in a typical business atmosphere and that person was working at the next cubicle over, they would probably be that way, no matter what their job is because that is just how they are. The world is scary enough so I don't want to add any more nastiness and competition to the world because there is enough already. I also think it has to do with how secure you are.

Question: Rose your good at dark comedy...doing another?

RoseMcGwn: Yes. I finished the movie, Devil In The Flesh, this summer and that is a very dark comedy,

RoseMcGwn: very very dark, I should say. I play a sociopath who really believes she should have whatever she wants and doesn't understand why she can't. Mayhem ensues.

Question: (2)whats the weirdest thin you've ever done? Do you have a hidden talent?

RoseMcGwn: If I had a hidden talent, I think they are still hidden from me. I don't know what that means. Does that mean like a hobby, like crocheting or something? I don't know. I have done too many weird things to count. I am a complete clutz and I am the only person I know who has stepped on her hand while tying shoelaces. I also gave myself a black eye recently while picking up the phone too fast and missing my ear. There are too many things that I do to go into detail. I like my weirdness in small doses.

Question: Do you still plan on pursuing your arts education?

RoseMcGwn: I really want to. The way I have been doing it is just kind of free hand right now without a structured environment, just by reading a lot of books and going to as many museums as I can in all the cities I travel to. New art shows and art openings here. I do feel like I am lagging. But, I have a good excuse. Don't you think?

Question: Is there an actor/actress that you have admired ever since you were little? Also, do you think that you would like to work with this actor/actress sometime during your career?

RoseMcGwn: There are so many. I have admired Sophia Loren since I was little. I have admired a lot of people that are not dead so I don't suppose I could work with them but there are quite a few that are alive that are great. I would love to do a sweeping romantic epic movie with Ralph Fiennes or I would love to do a movie where I could play Susan Sarandon's daughter. I would love to do something with Linda Fiorentino. I think she is really great. It is like going to the record store. You always think that you have a million records that you want but then when you get there you blank out. That is what is happening with me now.

Question: How did your parents and friends react when they saw The Doom Generation?

RoseMcGwn: LOL. Well, that was a real case by case basis. To be honest, if somebody I know tells me they have seen it, I always blush a little bit. My parents hated it. I can understand why. It is just a random thing. I try to surround myself with people who are really supportive and cool and even if they don't agree with a movie I did, I know they love me enough not to judge me and let me do whatever I want to do.

Question: Have you seen any of your fan pages on the web?

RoseMcGwn: That is funny because I have but most recently about six months ago. My sister is always on the computer and my mother works for Microsoft so one would suppose I know how to turn one on but alas, I cannot but I am always terribly flattered and I am amazed at how much information is available on people. Some of the stuff, I forgot I did. I generally think that they are cool though. It is a pretty cool fan base to have.

Question: did you like working with pauly shore and stephen baldwin in bio-dome

RoseMcGwn: No. They are really nice people but those aren't the kind of roles or movies that I would gravitate toward now that I can pay my rent.

Question: Ok, I've seen you with a few different colors of hair, what is your real color?

RoseMcGwn: Very close to the dark shade that I have now. I am Irish after all and I come by the black hair and white skin thing naturally. Unlike Michael Jackson.

Question: Rose you are beautiful,and I loved you in Scream, but what I wish to know is: would you ever consider doing a singing career? Because your voice is beautiful.

RoseMcGwn: Funny that you said that because singing is probably my favorite thing in the universe. I like old standards and old torch songs and I am currently trying to put a little cabaret act together. Maybe someday I will be lucky enough to find something that combines music and acting.

Question: I have a Q, who susposedally killed you in Scream, Billy, or your Boyfriend, I thought it was your Boyfriend, and my friend thought it was Billie.

RoseMcGwn: I haven't the slightest idea. I never figured that out myself. When I see Wes Craven again, I will ask him.

Question: do you feel that, as both an actress and a young woman, that there is pressure to set an example? does everyone have an opinion on what image you should portray?

RoseMcGwn: Everyone has an opinion on everything, it seems. But, I am not really a person that is easily influenced by other people's wants or desires. I just generally try to not make the world a yuckier place than it can be at times. In my own weird way, of course. I definitely strive for things to be on the happy side and not to cramp anybody elses style and hope that they return the favor.

Question: I was wanting to know if you are viewing any films that are far off the path as Scream. I would love to see you do a love story

RoseMcGwn: I would also like to do a love story. Every movie I have done, luckily, has been pretty far off the path. I did a movie this winter called Brass Ring and I play this really messed up alcholic and it is kind of a love story between this girl and her family and the family really cares about each other and all the messed up things that they have to do to realize that. I would love to do a good old fashioned Gone With The Wind or Casablanca. Cross your fingers for me.

Question: I get the impression that the movie industry is filled with celebrities who think they are larger than life, do you feel that this could happen to you and that you would lose touch with reality?

RoseMcGwn: I don't know how much reality is in my perspective, generally. I have the idea that I am no different than the bag boy at the grocery story or a pulitzer prize winning author. I think there are some really groovy things about all of us and probably some not so groovy things so in that respect, I am like most others. But, why don't you come back in a couple of years and let me know if my ego is too huge so you can pop it. LOL

Question: Rose what is the hardest thing about being an entertainer and do you have any advice for someone looking to get into the business? oh loved ya in doom g! Nathaniel G........

RoseMcGwn: Nathaniel, Nathaniel is my brother's name. So, I like you already Nathaniel. The hardest thing about being an entertainer is the freelance lifestyle. I have no idea what I will be doing one year from now. That is what makes it exciting. One day you can be completely high and have everything going for you and then the next day you can be on the floor and everything is in the toilet but I guess it evens out. Good luck to you in the industry and keep going forward through the hard knocks.

Question: when does your movie phantoms come out and what is it about?

RoseMcGwn: Phantoms is going to be coming out in the winter or spring of this year because it has a lot of special effects that take extra time. It is adapted from a Dean Koontz novel so it is kind of a supernatural thriller and I am just superhappy that I got to act with Peter O'Toole whom I love and adore.

Question: Hi Rose. You're great! Oh yeah, the question. How do you spend your days when not acting?

RoseMcGwn: I just kind of putter around. Doing Rose things. I spend a lot of time in libraries. I love the quiet and just with my friends and my favorite days are usually ones when I go see 3 movies back to back and escape reality.

Question: Loved ya' on CNN Headline news, are there any other interviews on tv that we can see you in?

RoseMcGwn: Well, apparently, I have been on quite a bit lately but I never know when or where. I didn't know I was on CNN until somebody told me. I always miss everything! I don't know. Sorry. I know that I am going to be in Cosmopolitan Magazine next month. It is another interview. Don't worry, apparently it is not the same old Cosmopolitan magazine.

Question: Do you watch a lot of independent films?

RoseMcGwn: Absolutely. But, I don't have a thing against studio films. I just tend to gravitate towards anything that you know, looks like it has thought and soul in it. I love "The Game" I love really intelligent film and of course, Going All The Way, is great too but then I am biased. We are actually getting good reviews for that.

Question: How did you overcome the fear of performing in front of people?

RoseMcGwn: I have to overcome that fear everything I go to an audition and I usually just try to channel my nervous energy into my performance. Sometimes I can't and I feel like I really suck and make a fool of myself but luckily those days usually aren't for everybody to see. It is a very odd occupation. It feels like you are starting a new job every day.

RoseMcGwn: They shoot movies out of sequence so it was strange but the day after I died, I was back the next day shooting a scene that was live. Oh the magic of movie making. I think you are awesome too.

The world is scary enough so I don't want to add any more nastiness and competition to the world because there is enough already. I also think it has to do with how secure you are.

RoseMcGwn:	Yes. I finished the movie, Devil In The Flesh, this summer and that is a very dark comedy,

RoseMcGwn:	If I had a hidden talent, I think they are still hidden from me. I don't know what that means. Does that mean like a hobby, like crocheting or something? I don't know. I have done too many weird things to count. I am a complete clutz and I am the only person I know who has stepped on her hand while tying shoelaces. I also gave myself a black eye recently while picking up the phone too fast and missing my ear. There are too many things that I do to go into detail. I like my weirdness in small doses.

Question:	Do you still plan on pursuing your arts education?
RoseMcGwn:	I really want to. The way I have been doing it is just kind of free hand right now without a structured environment, just by reading a lot of books and going to as many museums as I can in all the cities I travel to. New art shows and art openings here. I do feel like I am lagging. But, I have a good excuse. Don't you think?

RoseMcGwn:	There are so many. I have admired Sophia Loren since I was little. I have admired a lot of people that are not dead so I don't suppose I could work with them but there are quite a few that are alive that are great. I would love to do a sweeping romantic epic movie with Ralph Fiennes or I would love to do a movie where I could play Susan Sarandon's daughter. I would love to do something with Linda Fiorentino. I think she is really great. It is like going to the record store. You always think that you have a million records that you want but then when you get there you blank out. That is what is happening with me now.

RoseMcGwn:	LOL. Well, that was a real case by case basis. To be honest, if somebody I know tells me they have seen it, I always blush a little bit. My parents hated it. I can understand why. It is just a random thing. I try to surround myself with people who are really supportive and cool and even if they don't agree with a movie I did, I know they love me enough not to judge me and let me do whatever I want to do.

RoseMcGwn:	That is funny because I have but most recently about six months ago. My sister is always on the computer and my mother works for Microsoft so one would suppose I know how to turn one on but alas, I cannot but I am always terribly flattered and I am amazed at how much information is available on people. Some of the stuff, I forgot I did. I generally think that they are cool though. It is a pretty cool fan base to have.

RoseMcGwn:	Funny that you said that because singing is probably my favorite thing in the universe. I like old standards and old torch songs and I am currently trying to put a little cabaret act together. Maybe someday I will be lucky enough to find something that combines music and acting.

RoseMcGwn:	Everyone has an opinion on everything, it seems. But, I am not really a person that is easily influenced by other people's wants or desires. I just generally try to not make the world a yuckier place than it can be at times. In my own weird way, of course. I definitely strive for things to be on the happy side and not to cramp anybody elses style and hope that they return the favor.

Question:	I was wanting to know if you are viewing any films that are far off the path as Scream. I would love to see you do a love story
RoseMcGwn:	I would also like to do a love story. Every movie I have done, luckily, has been pretty far off the path. I did a movie this winter called Brass Ring and I play this really messed up alcholic and it is kind of a love story between this girl and her family and the family really cares about each other and all the messed up things that they have to do to realize that. I would love to do a good old fashioned Gone With The Wind or Casablanca. Cross your fingers for me.

RoseMcGwn:	I don't know how much reality is in my perspective, generally. I have the idea that I am no different than the bag boy at the grocery story or a pulitzer prize winning author. I think there are some really groovy things about all of us and probably some not so groovy things so in that respect, I am like most others. But, why don't you come back in a couple of years and let me know if my ego is too huge so you can pop it. LOL

RoseMcGwn:	Nathaniel, Nathaniel is my brother's name. So, I like you already Nathaniel. The hardest thing about being an entertainer is the freelance lifestyle. I have no idea what I will be doing one year from now. That is what makes it exciting. One day you can be completely high and have everything going for you and then the next day you can be on the floor and everything is in the toilet but I guess it evens out. RoseMcGwn:	Phantoms is going to be coming out in the winter or spring of this year because it has a lot of special effects that take extra time. It is adapted from a Dean Koontz novel so it is kind of a supernatural thriller and I am just superhappy that I got to act with Peter O'Toole whom I love and adore.

RoseMcGwn:	I just kind of putter around. Doing Rose things. I spend a lot of time in libraries. I love the quiet and just with my friends and my favorite days are usually ones when I go see 3 movies back to back and escape reality.

RoseMcGwn:	Well, apparently, I have been on quite a bit lately but I never know when or where. I didn't know I was on CNN until somebody told me. I always miss everything! I don't know. Sorry. I know that I am going to be in Cosmopolitan Magazine next month. It is another interview. Don't worry, apparently it is not the same old Cosmopolitan magazine.

RoseMcGwn:	Absolutely. But, I don't have a thing against studio films. I just tend to gravitate towards anything that you know, looks like it has thought and soul in it. I love "The Game" I love really intelligent film and of course, Going All The Way, is great too but then I am biased. We are actually getting good reviews for that.

RoseMcGwn:	I have to overcome that fear everything I go to an audition and I usually just try to channel my nervous energy into my performance. Sometimes I can't and I feel like I really suck and make a fool of myself but luckily those days usually aren't for everybody to see. It is a very odd occupation. It feels like you are starting a new job every day.
