Born Kirsten Caroline Dunst, on Apr 30, 1982, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, USA.

There’s an episode of Seinfeld in which Jerry and George pitch their “show about nothing” idea to TV network execs; the execs are unimpressed, and at length one of them asks, “Why would anyone watch it?” To this George confidently replies, “Because it’s on TV!”

Kirsten Dunst’s popularity, it seems to me, has a lot in common with this.

Sure, Kirsten’s a fine actress — she beat out Christina Ricci for roles in Interview with the Vampire and Little Women, and made the apparently difficult transition from working child actor to working adult without any appearances in E! True Hollywood Stories — and has a pretty good body to boot (although her chest seems to hang a little low for someone her age). But from the neck up, Kiki — as friends, family, and fawning fans have been calling her since her uncredited voice work on Kiki’s Delivery Service — is a little rough sometimes, and yet she’s been playing Hot Chick roles more and more. Like Twiggy in the 60s, she’s gained acceptance as a sex icon even though most guys aren’t particulary into her; they watch her because she’s been in some popular movies. Once their interest in those movies starts to fade, though, Kirsten’s sex appeal will start to soften as she slips into Chloe Sevigny territory.

Also sprach Golem.
