Born Anna Kristiina Palomaki , on Apr 22, 1972, in Tampere, Finland. Reportedly 5' 10", 36.6-24-36.

Living in California, it's easy to fall under the impression that Americans are the shallowest, most vain creatures on two legs, what with our nose jobs, boob jobs, eye jobs, lip jobs, hair weaves, rib removals, penile extensions, tanning salons, and weight-control vomiting. Especially if one lives in Hollywood, where there are more surgical veterans per square foot than anywhere else in the country. But not necessarily the world. In China, for example, where the plastic surgery industry is unregulated and run largely by untrained doctors, tens of thousands of people have been mutilated trying to get their eyes rounded, to say nothing of the ones whose operations were successful. I don't know if the industry is any better in Thailand than in China, but in 1999 some 4,000 people got an all-expenses-paid trip to the cosmetic surgery room in honor of the king's 72nd birthday. Americans, it seems, are not the only ones wading in the shallow end of the beauty pool.

And yet for some reason I'm always surprised when I see European models and actresses who've obviously gone under the knife, particularly when it comes to breast augmentation. Europeans, one always hears — mostly from Europeans — are not afflicted by the American fetish for monstrous breasts any more than they are by the American revulsion to female underarm hair. Which made Finnish/Italian actress/model Anna Falchi a little disappointing when I recently got a glimpse of her in Cemetary Man and saw that she was corking her bat as much as any regular on an Andy Sidaris flick. Indeed, from the neck down it's difficult to get a sense of her from photo shoot to photo shoot, her body having apparently undergone more transformations than the liquid terminator from Terminator 2. Even her face — the thing that initially caught my attention — possesses a Frankensteinish quality: it looks like Ornella Muti and Sofía Vergara's faces were grafted together and held in place by Angelina Jolie's lips. Not that this is a bad combo. Still, call me a shallow American, but as beautiful as Anna clearly is, I find myself in that rare position where I think I might actually prefer to see a woman with her clothes on rather than off.
