Common wisdom advises that relationships that begin with sex seldom last, for once the novelty of the sex starts to fade, so does the friendship that was built on it. Which doesn’t bode well for new actress Eva Green.

Eva, plucked fresh from the relative obscurity of theater (she was in Didier Long’s “Jalousie en Trois Fax” and Gerard Deshartes’ “Turcarcet”), began a new career in film with Bertolucci’s allegorical tale of the French New Wave The Dreamers, in which she memorably plays Sex in Art as the incestuous sister of Ideology. It’s a good film, and one that’s been getting some buzz — but mostly on account of its frequent full frontal nudity and the Angelina Jolie-James Haven-esque relationship between Eva’s character and her twin brother. The trouble is that the more buzz The Dreamers gets, the more buzz Eva gets as film’s new Hot Naked Chick — a mixed blessing in that, as with a woman who has sex on the first date, there’s an initial period of lustful infatuation ... followed by growing indifference as she starts to resent the nature of her public’s infatuation and keeps her clothes on more and more until popular interest in her disappears altogether.

On the other hand, as good as The Dreamers may be, it’s hardly a blockbuster, so perhaps Eva will not have really begun her new public relationship with sex after all.

We can only hope.
