There are two kinds of Playboy model. The first and better known kind are the Playmates, the monthly featured models who made the magazine famous and whose centerfolds can be found in dorm rooms and frat houses the world over. Then there are the other, more anonymous models filling out the pages of Playboy's thematic newsstand issues (eg., “Playboy's Girls of Summer”, “Playboy's Lingerie”). Some of these models become popular enough that they go on to be Playmates, but most never make the cut.
Lori Jo Hendrix is one of these models who never made the cut.
Why is anyone's guess. Perhaps she never actually aspired to rise higher in the Playboy ranks. Perhaps, in the era before boob jobs were the norm for Playboy's “girl next door”, Lori's boobs were too obviously fake. Or perhaps she just wasn't hot enough relative to the other models at Playboy's disposal. Still, creature of Dow Corning Corporation though she may be, Lori has a kind of B-movie charm about her, particularly when she doesn't look her unapproachable “model best”, which may be why Prison Heat — a movie she feels she looks terrible in — enjoys runs on cable to this day while her other films do not.
