Charmingly intellectual, Ashley Judd is one of the few people on this site who’ve had a pretty solid, respectable film career (Ruby in Paradise, Smoke, A Time To Kill, Normal Life, Norma Jean and Marilyn, Kiss the Girls), specializing, it seems, in portraying characters who are fiercely independent and a bit unbalanced. She’s also one of the few here who can really act — one of the reasons cited for the NC-17 rating given to Natural Born Killers was Ashley’s performance as the sole survivor of a slumber party massacre recounting the ordeal in court; the scene, later cut from the film, was described as being “too emotionally harrowing.”

Happily, even though Ashley has risen from Star Trek ensign to Respectable Actress, she hasn’t gotten uptight about getting naked on the big screen like so many other actresses once they’ve been accepted into Hollywood royalty — although she did reportedly turn down a larger role in Kuffs back in 1992 because of the role’s nude scenes, explaining that “My mother worked too hard for me to take my clothes off in my first movie.”
