Born Alexandra Kingston, on Mar 11, 1963, in London, England, UK.

In this day and age, theatre actors are the Macintoshes of the acting world — they might be more skilled, more versatile, and otherwise better actors than their film and television brethren, but it doesn't matter since very few people bother going to the theatre anymore. Even more doomed to obscurity are the Shakespearean theatre actors, who, like the old all-in-one, black-and-white Macs, collectively still linger on in the popular conscious as symbols of the larger industry, but are lukewarmly patronized only by handful of people.

Which is why Alex Kingston, beautiful but now well into her thirties, has gone virtually unknown to American audiences until 1998, when she landed a regular role on ER. Before that, the first part of career had been spent thinking different with the Royal Shakespeare Company, followed by a TV career witnessed only by the British and the fifty or so Americans who saw Moll Flanders on PBS, followed then by a smattering of small roles in small films. Tragically, that's probably where it will remain. The ER gig may have upgraded Alex from old Mac to iMac and saved her from extinction, but a Mac she remains all the same, and at her age the pile of scripts on her agent's desk is probably not as high as it once was.

Also sprach Golem.

Alex’s 2 Cents on The Bachelor
April 26 2002
From IMDB.com:

ER star Alex Kingston is raging about America's latest TV phenomenon The Bachelor — because it degrades women. The show, which features Harvard-educated hunk Alex picking his ideal date from 25 women, has been running for the past month — pulling in up to 18 million viewers. And, as Alex gets set to choose his perfect woman from the final two candidates tonight, Kingston says she can't bear to watch after checking out the opening episode. She says, "It's utterly humiliating for women and I find it degrading. It makes me so mad, I get so riled. There was one girl who said, 'Oh I just broke up with my boyfriend,' so what is she going to do — marry a man potentially in six weeks on the rebound. A great recipe for marriage. These people aren't stupid. They've seen Survivor and they want an agent and they want a chat show. It makes me so mad. That girl is just a hooker who didn't put out."

The Doctor Is Out
June 7, 2004
From TV Guide:

EMERGENCY!: ER star Alex Kingston — she plays Dr. Corday — claims she was fired from NBC’s long-running hospital drama for being too old. In an interview with London’s Radio Times magazine, the 41-year-old actress said her contract wasn't renewed because “according to the producers and the writers, [I] am part of the old fogies who are no longer interesting.” Let’s hope CBS can find something for this old fogie to do.

Physician, Watch Thyself
June 8, 2004
From TV Guide:

ON SECOND THOUGHT!: ER star Alex Kingston is backing down from claims that she was fired from NBC’s long-running hospital drama for being too old. As reported Monday, the 41-year-old actress told London’s Radio Times that her contract wasn’t renewed because “according to the producers and the writers, [I] am part of the old fogies who are no longer interesting.” But faster than you can say “The wrath of John Wells,” Kingston released a statement saying her remarks “were taken out of context.” She added that Dr. Corday was being phased out because “the character had run its course.” Translation: She was an old fogie.
