For all the magic and mystery surrounding Playboy, surprisingly few of its featured models have met much success after their stint with Playboy came to a close. The only two names most people would recognize today are Marilyn Monroe and Pamela Anderson. And most people don’t know that Marilyn was a Playmate.
Cristy Thom, for all her obvious charms, is one of the half a thousand featured Playmates so far that doffed their clothes as a springboard to conquering Hollywood, landed one or two B-movie gigs in which they were essentially topless scenery (in Cristy’s case, Meatballs 4), then quietly disappeared after swallowing all the abuse and disappointment they could stomach.
But Cristy’s story has a silver lining: While she has long retired from modeling and acting, she hasn’t quite disappeared from the public eye — somewhere along the line, she became a fulltime artist, and, according to her site, has been exhibiting around the country since 2000.
UPDATE: (July 2010) Sadly, that silver lining might have already run out — there is no exhibition listed on her site since 2004, and the site itself seems to be moribund.
