Carla to Play J. Lo in TV Version of Out of Sight
I never saw the J. Lo version of Out of Sight after sitting through The Cell, I’ll be happy not to see the J. Lo version of anything but I’m certainly looking forward to seeing Carla Gugino take a shot at it in the upcoming Karen Sisco.
Actually, I’m just happy to see her back on the tube at all. And by all accounts, in something that doesn’t suck. From this week’s Entertainment Weekly:
CONCEPT Based on the J. Lo-George Clooney movie/Elmore Leonard novel Out of Sight, Carla Gugino (Spy Kids) is a U.S. marshal who always gets her man, with occasional help from her retired marshal dad (Robert Forster). THE SCOOP Gugino sounds trigger-happy: “I did gun training I was really good! We’re [shooting at a target] with that paper and a guy on it. The police instructor says, ‘Go for the chest,’ and I got almost all of the shots in the chest. He said I was better than some cops when they’re starting.” As for the tone of the show, she picks an unusual comparison: “I think [Karen] is much more like a Robert Mitchum silent type from the ’50s. She’s always falling for the wrong guy.” BOTTOM LINE The pilot has a lot of the snap of the movie/novel, but can the writers come up with Leonard’s tough-guy dialogue and tight plotting every week? If they can, this could be The Rockford Files for the new century, with a female lead making it all the more beguiling.
