How Phil Spector Will Beat the Rap
The Twinkie defense? Are you serious?
Yes, for all all the criticism of 1979’s infamous Dan White trial, the Twinkie defense is still very much alive and well in American jurisprudence: Shortly after Lana Clarkson was found dead in Phil Spector’s home, Spector allegedly told police that he had accidentally shot her. Prosecutors in the case want to use the comment in the trial, but the defense insists that Spector hadn’t taken his meds at the time of the confession and was not in his right state of mind.
That this line of argument has stuck at all does not bode well for the actual trial if the trial even happens (it’s been two years, for God’s sake).
Ah, those OJ lawyers. Worth their weight in gold, each one of them.
