The handful of people out there who still watch Gilmore Girls already know that the show has been ailing for quite a while now. They also know that the new season, the first one without the show’s creator, will probably be the least — and last — of the series.

But if last week’s episode was lackluster in its writing, this week’s was lackluster in its acting. Even where the writing was not especially different from previous lesser seasons, the delivery from all the key actors was noticeably flat, and as unconvincing as that sucker punch in the show’s opening sequence. But with so many actors sucking at once — actors who never sucked like this before on the show — one would have to conclude that it’s not the so much the actors who are the real problem here, but the (presumably new) director.

Either way, after tonight’s episode, I’m finding myself very close to being an hour freer on Tuesday nights than before.
