Reese, Ryan, and The Seven Year Itch

It’s been announced today that Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have formally separated after seven years of marriage. Which is a pretty good run for marriages these days — especially Hollywood marriages — and if there’s any surprise, it’s that it didn’t happen sooner.

The specifics of why the Reese and Ryan union finally ground to a halt has not been made public, but part of the answer might be in a Howard Stern interview with Ryan from some years ago, in which I got the impression that Reese kept him on a very, very short leash.
